Our Home Today
After the restoration, The Ruin consists of two adjacent, connected houses, each with its own kitchen, bathroom, main floor common room, 2nd floor lofted great room, 2nd floor bedroom, and an attic. To preserve the original layout and half-timbering, the houses are connected with one passage on the main floor. The Ruin can host comfortably one large family or two families, with privacy for kids-parents or guests. We do not rent out, but always welcome family and friends.
Currently, The Ruin can accommodate 7 people: 5 in the first house and 2 in the second house. The first house has a double bed in the bedroom and single bed and new queen pullout in the loft. The 2nd house has a queen bed in the bedroom. All beds except for the single antique bed are new and have quality mattresses. A futon in the attic of the 2nd house can be used as overflow bedding.
The Ruin is furnished with a mix of contemporary and antique furniture, collected over several years from local brocantes. The kitchens are equipped with gas and electric stoves, coffee makers, kitchen utensils and dishes for several people. There is a washing machine in one of the kitchens. Both bathrooms are on the main floor, and have toilets, sinks and showers.
The round table in the first house accommodates 6-8 people. There is a wireless internet connection, a stereo with iPod adapter and CD player, but no TV or phone line. We have electric piano for jazzy evenings.
The large secluded terrace with expansive views to the south and west extends along both houses and it is equipped with garden table, chairs and lounges.
Despite long hot summers, air conditioning is not needed because the thick, stone, south-west wall ensures comfortable temperatures inside during the hottest days. There are portable electric heaters for cooler spring and fall nights.
Although the house has modern conveniences, it is an old medieval structure that shows surprises… from time to time.
